Historic Third Ward Membership

Dear Neighbor:

The New Year has come and that means it is time to renew (or begin) your membership with the Historic Third Ward Association! The HTWA is your non-profit neighborhood association funded by membership dues and the Business Improvement District No. 2. Our mission is to expand and enhance the business improvement district as a creative, livable and exciting mixed-use neighborhood while preserving its historic character.

Membership dues cover only a fraction of what the Association provides. From Gallery Night and Day to the Summer Sizzle - from graffiti removal to hanging flowers baskets – from neighborhood news to space availability listings - from being the clearinghouse of information for all Third Ward neighbors to updates on downtown activities – from working with property owners and new residential developments to advertising and promotion, the Association is the driving force behind what takes place in the district. We work hard to ensure you are provided with the best amenities possible within our budget.

The Historic Third Ward is a “Business Improvement District.” Known as BID No. 2, we are the oldest and one of the most successful BIDs in the nation. We developed and own two parking structures, all of the streetscape fixtures-including the 286 streetlights unique to our area and the Third Ward Riverwalk. The BID is funded annually by a special assessment from each commercial Third Ward property owner and the City for the land and buildings they own within the BID. These funds provide the HTWA the majority of its budget.

We have accomplished a lot in the past several years and know we can continue to do so as long as we have your support. As we continue to grow as a neighborhood, the demands on the Association affect our ability to meet new challenges. By working together and supporting each other we can continue to produce the positive results that you have seen.

With this said, we hope you will consider joining our continually growing membership in 2008.

Your interest and support is greatly appreciated. Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous 2008!

Sincerely,

Nancy O'Keefe
Executive Director
