Summer Gallery Night - July 25 and 26, 2008Presented by the East Town and Historic Third Ward Associations, the 21-year-old Gallery Night and Day is the premier art event in Milwaukee for both the experienced artist and most beginning admirer. The quarterly event features 57 venues throughout the downtown Milwaukee area. Spanning Friday evening and Saturday during the day,Gallery Night and Day features free parking in the Historic Third Ward parking structures. Ride the Friday Gallery Night Xpress FREE! Enjoy a five-stop route which will take you from the Third Ward to East Town and back. The 20-passenger bus makes a continuous loop from 5pm to 9pm with stops approximately every 15 minutes. 1) DeLIND GALLERY OF FINE ART – (400 E. Mason St. - 414.271.8525 - www.delindgallery.com) Antique and Classic, Mostly French Posters, Paintings & Drawings. For a true French experience during Bastille Days, come enjoy a few choice Antique and Classic, all original, French posters by Toulouse-Lautrec, Cheret, Cappiello and many others. See the evolution in French style from Belle Epoque, Art Nouveau and Art Deco to the stylized classic posters of the 1950s. Paintings, drawings and magazine illustrations by many of the poster artists are included and all are for sale. New work will be featured by three artists who specialize in painting the human figure. Carri Skoczek, a New York-based artist, paints in bold mixed media, creating male and female images full of emotion and expressions. Jean White creates extraordinary images that at first resemble prints. However, upon close examination, her paintings confess they are of ink and watercolor. Tom Hoffman works in oils creating images like those of the old masters - rich in color and paint. Sometimes using impasto, his paintings come to life with a surrealistic twist. Biographical Landscape offers an opportunity to revisit the works of Stephen Shore, one of the most prominent and influential American photographers to emerge in the last half-century. Featuring over 100 prints by this pioneer of fine art color photography, this exhibition captures quintessentially American scenes transforming uncommon places that seem frozen in space and time. Shore's unsurpassed artistry and technical skill as a photographer, coupled with his unique vision of each location that he documents makes this work transcend the ordinariness of the subject matter. Twenty-four members of MIAD's graduating class of 2008 were juried into this summer exhibition by MIAD's faculty from the excellence of their senior work. Representing all of the school's eleven majors, this diverse exhibition in the Frederick Layton Gallery showcases the future designers and artists who have just graduated from the state's only independent college of art and design. Also on exhibit in the Brooks Stevens Gallery will be artifacts and graphics from the college's extensive design collections. Exhibition May 27 through August 10.
