Getting to the Historic Third Ward

The Historic Third Ward is located just south of I-794 and Downtown Milwaukee and east of the Milwaukee River.

With the recent and continuing construction on the Marquette Interchange, routes into the neighborhood have been affected. Please use the infromation below to help you navigate to your destination. For information on future routes, visit www.mchange.org.

From Downtown: Take Water Street, Broadway or Milwaukee Street one block south of I-794.

From the Summerfest Grounds: Go two or three blocks west on St. Paul Avenue or Chicago Street.

From the South: Take the Plankinton Exit while driving north on I-43/94. Stay in right-hand lane. Follow the off-ramp to Michigan Street. Turn right (east) on Michigan and continue to Broadway. Turn right (south) to the Ward (one block south of I-794).

From the North: I-794 East is not currently accessible while driving south on I-43. We suggest exiting I-43 South at North Ave, to Halyard St. which becomes 6th St. Take 6th south to McKinley Avenue and turn left (east). Continue east on McKinley Avenue to Water Street and turn right (south) to the Ward. For a map, click here.

From the West: Take I-94 East to I-794 East, exit at Jackson St. Turn right (west) onto St. Paul Avenue or continue south to Chicago St. Turn right (west) to the Ward. For a map, click here.
